This cropped coat is made from a stunning antique 1800s quilt that hand-stitched in a Touching Stars pattern, and hand quilted in a Baptist fan pattern with black thread - she is truly an incredible work of art and piece of history. This style jacket features a scooped side hem, contrast binding and front plackets made from a reproduction indigo 100% cotton fabric, antique brass snaps and oversized handwarmer style pockets. This is the Flora Jacket pattern by Brightside Pattern Company that I pattern tested for them, and they were kind enough to grant me permission to make finished coats available to you! The fit is oversized through the body with slimmer arms, and a stand up collar - a truly amazing fit!
This antique quilt is from the 1800s and shows its age throughout in the form of worn/damaged areas and seam separations, exposed batting, and age discoloration throughout - these are not viewed as flaws, but rather giving it character and showing its history. If you are looking for a jacket made from a perfectly intact quilt, this is not it, HOWEVER, if you are looking to treasure and enjoy this piece of history through gentle wear, this piece will not disappoint - quilts in this condition are my very favorite and I love dreaming about the life it must have led over the past hundred plus years. I have done my best to capture these areas in the photos, but is possible that not all are photographed. Please review all images as returns are not accepted - no exceptions.
