FAQs
ARE ALL YOUR PIECES HANDMADE?
They sure are! Each piece is thoughtfully crafted and handmade by Ashley Saville and her assistant, Karen, at her studio in Essex Junction, Vermont.
WHAT IS YOUR RETURN AND REFUND POLICY?
Returns are not accepted under any circumstance - ALL ITEMS ARE FINAL SALE. Orders cancelled within 24 hours are eligible for a refund and subject to a $25 processing fee (unfortunately, credit card and Shopify fees cannot be refunded as those are deducted by the respective companies when an order is placed) - no exceptions.
Please read all listings thoroughly and note that all OOAK pieces are created using antique and vintage textiles, some of which are 100+ years old. It is possible pieces might show their age in the form of discolored, worn, or damaged areas. We do our best to photograph pieces accurately, however it is possible for something to be missed, as we are only human! Any potential characteristics that fall into these categories are not viewed as defects, but rather pay homage to the previous life of the textile and lend character and individuality to each piece.
ANEMONE is not responsible for any wear and tear that occurs once you receive your piece - fabrics wear differently over time, which can cause your piece to change and develop more character - unfortunately, there is no way to determine how and when a piece will develop wear, and this is not viewed as a defect or at the fault of ANEMONE.
HOW BIG DOES MY QUILT/BLANKET NEED TO BE?
There is some variability based on the pattern/layout of your quilt or blanket. That being said 60" x 70" is the minimum size requirement for a jacket, though depending on desired size/length of your finished piece or if you are looking for a Shawl Coat, a larger textile might be necessary. A textile that exceeds the aforementioned dimensions never hurts though as it allows for more creativity with pattern placement! Please note that it must be a light to medium weight quilt (also known as summer weight) - HEAVYWEIGHT quilts cannot be used.
I'D LOVE ONE OF YOUR PIECES, BUT DON'T HAVE A QUILT. WHERE CAN I FIND ONE OR CAN YOU FIND ONE FOR ME?
Unfortunately not as I am so busy sewing, but searching for your perfect quilt is so much fun! There are a bunch of great accounts on instagram that sell quilts, as well as ebay and etsy - also don't forget to check locally at thrift and antique stores!
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY PIECE TO BE MADE?
Turn around times vary, but generally around 4-6 weeks.
I'D LIKE TO ORDER SOMETHING THAT ISN'T A STYLE YOU CURRENTLY OFFER - CAN YOU MAKE IT FOR ME?
Maybe! Feel free to contact me via email (Instagram DMs are not checked consistently, and I prefer to discuss business over email) so we can discuss the possibilities!
WHAT IS YOUR SHIPPING POLICY?
All packages are sent via USPS or UPS. If you prefer a different carrier or shipping speed, or require insurance, I will do my best to accommodate at the buyer's expense. Please note that once a package has been scanned in by the carrier, it is no longer the financial responsibility of ANEMONE if lost in transit, stolen, or damaged.
CAN I BUY YOUR PATTERNS?
Patterns are not available for purchase, however there are many great pattern makers you can support!
HOW SHOULD I WASH MY QUILT CLOTHING?
I strongly advise against machine washing, and would highly recommend hand washing with a mild detergent in cool water, squeezing (vs wringing) the water out by hand, or rolling the piece in a towel to remove additional water, then laying flat to dry. The sun is also a powerful, natural tool for removing any discolored areas or odors! Antique and vintage textiles were not made to withstand the wear and tear of modern machine washing and drying.
I SEE YOU MAKE PIECES WITH QUILT TOPS; WHAT DO YOU DO TO THE BACK?
Pieces made from unfinished quilt tops (they do not have batting or backing fabric), are intentionally left unlined as it adds quite a bit of weight, and alters the drape and flow of the garment. Each quilt top has been laundered by hand followed by being dried in the sun (or machine dried or fluffed with wool dryer balls, if appropriate and safe for the integrity of the textile). From that washing process, the inner seams felt together in a sense, almost like velcro. Each seam is then meticulously hand-trimmed, to keep the inside looking neat and tidy. I have been wearing quilt top pieces for years successfully, without any additional fraying, seam tears, or degradation that puts at risk the structural integrity of the garment.
DO YOU OFFER REPAIRS? WHAT IS THE COST?
Repairs are considered on a case-by-case basis and the cost will be determined upon review. The hourly rate for repairs is $50. Please note that we repair ANEMONE pieces only.
