This Flora Jacket is made from a lightweight quilt that is hand pieced and quilted in a Rocky Road to Kansas pattern, with the background fabric featuring an indigo dot cotton, with lots of great plaids, ginghams, and shirting fabrics. The quilt backing was a lovely grey homespun fabric, but due to wear and damage, we lined the inside of this jacket with a deep blue lining. The edges are bound in a sepia toned plaid cotton fabric (from our friends at Toad&Co!), with the front packets featuring a vintage cream striped cotton. This quilt is well over 100 years old, and shows evidence of a life well loved through fabric wear throughout, as well as some age discoloration and hand mends. We invested many hours into bringing this quilt back to life - if you love a quilt with lots of character and are looking for a stunning coat to wear gently for seasons to come, you’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful coat! If you prefer something ready for harder wear and prefer something more prestige, I would advise against adding this piece into your wardrobe.
This style jacket features a straight side hem, bound edges, plackets and inner collar, antique brass snaps and oversized handwarmer style pockets. This is the Flora Jacket pattern by Brightside Pattern Company that I pattern tested for them, and they were kind enough to grant me permission to make finished coats available to you! The fit is oversized through the body with slimmer arms, and a stand up collar - a truly amazing fit!
As stated above and evident in images, this piece shows its age in places in the form of worn, slightly discolored areas, and/or mends - these are not viewed as flaws, but rather giving it character and showing its history. Please review all images as returns are not accepted - no exceptions.
