The Chore Coat has a boxy fit, with a slight drop shoulder, and gently tapered, set in sleeve, and is made from a 19th century, heavy cotton-batted quilt that is both hand-pieced and quilted in a Goshen Star pattern, with stunningly rich indigo slashing. It features a stunning array of indigo, shirting, and solid fabrics. The backing of this quilt was originally a lovely cream and muted brown floral woven fabric, heartbreakingly however, it was disintegrating and lacking structural integrity throughout. To give this quilt a new life as a coat, we constructed inner facings and an under collar from a dusty lilac tencel fabric, and fully lined the body and sleeves in a beautiful, silky navy lining. To give this silhouette a modern, while still utilitarian feel, it features antique brass snaps and hybrid handwarmer and patch style front pockets. It is in quite good condition otherwise for its age, with some age discoloration in areas that did not lift from multiple soaks and time in the sun. This truly adds to the beauty and richness of this piece of history, and it is ready to be loved for many seasons to come.
As this is an antique quilt that lived a full life prior to being reworked into a wearable garment, it is possible it shows its age in areas - these are not viewed as flaws, but rather giving it character and showing it's history. I have done my best to capture such areas in the photos, but is possible that not all are photographed. Please review all images as returns are not accepted - no exceptions.
For reference, I am 5'7" and my body measurements are: 34.5" bust, 26.5" waist, 37" hips.
