This Flora Jacket is made from a midweight quilt that is hand-pieced and quilted (with black thread in areas!) in a Churn Dash pattern. This quilt dates back to the mid to late 19th century, and was found at an estate here in Vermont. While the front of the quilt was remarkably intact aside from sun damage and fabric disintegration in areas, the entire back was brittle and disintegrating throughout. To give this quilt a new life, this jacket has been fully lined in a deep navy lining fabric. The edges are bound in an indigo dot fabric native to the time period, and the front plackets are constructed from a blue and gray toned floral print vintage cotton.
Please note that the white spots present in the photo of the jacket lining is due to dust on the camera lens - they are not on the actual garment!
This style jacket features a straight side hem, bound edges, plackets and inner collar, antique brass snaps and oversized handwarmer style pockets. This is the Flora Jacket pattern by Brightside Pattern Company that I pattern tested for them, and they were kind enough to grant me permission to make finished coats available to you! The fit is oversized through the body with slimmer arms, and a stand up collar - a truly amazing fit!
It is possible this piece shows its age in places in the form of worn, slightly discolored areas, and/or mends - these are not viewed as flaws, but rather giving it character and showing its history. Please review all images as returns are not accepted - no exceptions.
