This dress features a unfinished quilt TOP that is hand-pieced (it does not have batting or backing) in a classic Nine Patch pattern set on point. This is a stunning quilt top from the 1800s that I suspect was used as a bed covering or sat atop the back of a chair or couch as the outer edges were finished with a strip of facing that was hand stitched down. The fabrics are unbelievably soft with incredible drape. The original border and outer edge have been included in the skirt portion of the dress to preserve its history and original details as much as possible. This is a piece from my personal collection, and the very first Swing Dress I drafted and sewed. It is comprised solely of 100% cotton fabrics and has been left unlined to keep it breezy and warmer weather appropriate. It features a curved bodice that hits at mid-bust and gathered skirt complete with inseam side pockets,
As this is made from a vintage/antique quilt top that has lived a full life before becoming a piece of wearable art, it is possible it show it's age in the form of some discolorations and wear to some of the fabrics. These areas are viewed not as defects, but merely giving it character and a nod to it's past life. Please review the photos as returns are not accepted.
Measurements (sizing is flexible depending on desired fit):
Armpit to armpit: 22” flat across (double for circumference) - due to the style and the fact that the bust seam falls above full bust this can accommodate a wide range of sizes comfortably due to the gathering of the skirt portion
Length (shoulder to hem): 39”
